NSPCC number day

Learning about the NSPCC and using Real life maths.

We used our math’s skills to research the best value for in school and out of school treats for after SATs. We discussed the price of a coach, taking public transport or the possibility of being able to walk.

We now understand how expensive it actually is for 30 children to go out for the day.

Year 6 have been challenged with reading a certain about of pages each week in their guided read and reading for pleasure books. If they achieve that total they will either received a milkshake or free time. If they read with their Parents/Carers, they also receive a biscuit. Here are our first winners.

06.10.25 – Science – identifying the components of blood and their roles

During this lesson, we invested the components and their roles within the blood. Each group was faced with four patients – someone who was fighting an infection; someone who has a cut; someone who has been exercising and someone who is healthy.

Looking at the platelets, white blood cell, red bloods and plasma each group managed to work out who was who.

In previous lessons, we looked at the story of the prodigal son and how his father showed unconditional love. We then brought the family to court through hot seating to determine who showed and conditional love and who didn’t and why.

03.11.25 – Science – Light travels in straight lines

Today was the first lesson diving into the scientific world of light since we were in Year 3. We deceased how rays light travels in straight lines. Our investigation let us see this in action with most of the children managing to shows us how light would travel through the wholes the card was in a straight line. For those who it didn’t work for, this also showed us that if light is blocked the light will not travel through the card.

We had a workshop based on speaking out and staying safe with the help of Buddy the speech bubble. Year 6 learnt lots of ways that they can get support if they need it. It was a very useful and informative workshop and the children were all very engaged. They even got a sticker at the end for their hard work and involvement!

As part of our weekly question, our school councillors posed the question of what we can do to stop bullying. As part of anti bullying week, we discussed how we can tackle bullying and how we should not be bystanders to bullying. Our class believed that by educating others this would help to minimise bullying.

What a lovely afternoon singing club had at Alfred Stocks. Singing Club members of Year 1, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 all came along. We sang our hearts out, we had carols, songs and actions. Some of the residents could not believe how professional we sounded! All the children got lovely treats afterwards, thanks you Alfred Stocks!

This afternoon we had a visit from Coverdale puppets and they performed their Christmas show called ‘Angel delight’. We found it funny and enjoyed seeing all the different puppets. We even had a little boogie to some fun music and songs throughout.

Our DT project, this half term has been to create a playground using different methods to create structures. Today we began our playground. At the start of the lesson we thought it was going to be very simple however that was not the case. We had to problem solve to get our structures to stand independent.

Our first lesson in this topic of science was looking at different appliances and discussing how electricity is or isn’t used within it. Some items had lights, some items moved, some items made sounds and one was there to trick us and it didn’t do anything. It was our job to work out which item did had a light, motor, or buzzer.

In maths this week, we have been converting measurements. To help us imagine it, we ran one metre, 10 metres, 100 metres and 1 km. Those children who felt up to it then ran one mile. Everyone else cheered them on as it was only 6.5 times around the track.

24.02.26 – Music – Ukulele Concert

Today, the whole school had a fabulous opportunity to listen to a special concert by the local ukulele group called the Dingle Ukes. They played folk songs, older pop songs and locally written songs. The children had a fantastic time listening, clapping and singing along with the music. Thank you to Wheel Meet Again group and Dingle Ukes for coming along.
