What a fantastic morning we have had practising segmenting and blending some monster words and practising reading our split diagraphs.
63Today we began looking at arrays, we used counters to make different amounts of rows and columns.
72Today, Daffodil class were challenged to complete a missing box number hunt around Phase 2. The children thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and independently completed the calculations.
69To celebrate St George’s Day, we visited St George’s Hall to watch a performance of the legend and hear the fantastic organ being played.
124Daffodil class have really enjoyed investigating which items are heavier or lighter and then we calculated the mass of different objects.
162Daffodil class returned today to find a new provision area to investigate. We discussed how it might link to our new text and who the boat might belong to. We also discussed what the character would be like.
162Daffodil class had a wonderful day at Martin Mere. We discovered lots of new learning through the Generation Wild programme and discussed the importance of caring for our world and protecting animals.
251Daffodil class have been comparing lengths and began investigating their length my using objects to measure them.
224Daffodil class have been working extremely hard at partitioning a two digit number into tens and ones. We have investigated how each number could be represented using different manipulatives and used misconceptions to help us learn.
248During world book day, Year 6 buddied up with their little friends in Nursery, Reception and Year 1 for some reading for pleasure. Year six were really thinking about how they could confidently read and share their love of reading with the littlest learners of St Finbar’s.
290This afternoon year 1 took part in a great author event to help celebrate our love of reading. We listened to the story ‘Once upon a remix: Meet Goldilocs’, a fairytale with a twist by author Ella McLeod and learnt how to draw a bear with illustrator Rochelle Falconer.
262Daffodil class were treated to a visit from our Year 6 Rose class. They read some fantastic books and shared their love of reading.

261Mrs Flynn just loves seeing her little learners exploring maps and enhancing their own learning. Children have been exploring the United Kingdom and found a map of Liverpool, they then used the key to discover lots of different places across our region.
256Some of our little learners are really enjoying our new text ‘Hermelin’ and recreated a mouse bed, mouse-sized invitations, notices and street signs. Well done!
304Today, the whole school had a fabulous opportunity to listen to a special concert by the local ukulele group called the Dingle Ukes. They played folk songs, older pop songs and locally written songs. The children had a fantastic time listening, clapping and singing along with the music. Thank you to Wheel Meet Again group and Dingle Ukes for coming along.
329Today we have practised our subtraction skills, we used counters and our number bonds to help us.
283We returned to class today to discover an abandoned suitcase. We asked lots of questions and were extremely intrigued by the contents of the suitcase. We began to make predictions to who it might belong to and what this terms texts could be about.
287Art Club made lovely Chinese dragons to celebrate Chinese New Year. They decorated them in feather and coloured paper.
375Today we celebrated NSPCC Number Day to raise funds for the NSPCC charity. We have completed a variety of maths digit activities, discussed the importance of the PANTS rule and thought about who our safe and trusted adults are.
368Daffodil class have had a fantastic morning listening to author Annemarie Anyang share her story Nefertiti through the magic of storytelling and music.
30Art Club made some wonderful cards today. They made a stamper out of a plastic bag and it made the result look like roses.
353In history, Daffodil class learnt how a laundress used to wash clothes. We looked at washboards, carbolic soap, dolly pegs and a mangle. Our little daffodils did not like the smell of the carbolic soap. We discussed the importance of cleaning our clothes and ourselves and the affect this has on our health.
351Today in Mastering Number, we practised finding odd numbers within an even number. We used the coloured counters to find lots of different odd numbers.
357Daffodil class have really enjoyed this morning’s phonics activity. They have practised segmenting and blending lots of words and found a partner with the matching grapheme.
391Daffodil class really enjoyed this weeks discussion as it linked to our previous R.E. learning where we discussed Pope Francis, Laudato Si and the importance of looking after our world.

391Daffodil class are really enjoying learning about how we could move while hunting a wolf. We have practised wandering, stalking and slithering now we are looking at how we lurk behind an object.

426Daffodil class listened to Luke 2:22-38 and freeze framed Simeon and Anna meeting Jesus at the presentation. We discussed how we thought they would feel.

558We have been learning about Advent and that during this time we wait to celebrate the birthday of Jesus. Mrs Flynn surprised Daffodil class with a beautiful knitted nativity set that has been crafted by a knitting club.
488This afternoon, the children in Poppy class, who had over 97% attendance, got to throw snowballs at poor Father Christmas, I think he needs to have a good rest tonight!
576Daffodil class were so excited to hear the reindeer bells this morning and have a special visit from Father Christmas. We were thrilled to hear all the children were on the nice list 👏
498This afternoon we had a visit from Coverdale puppets and they performed their Christmas show called ‘Angel delight’. We found it funny and enjoyed seeing all the different puppets. We even had a little boogie to some fun music and songs throughout.
586Isn’t it lovely to see our little learners independently applying their learning. This week we have begun to look at 2D and 3D shapes. We can recognise and name the shapes and have now began to sort them. Can you see how the children have independently sorted the shapes?
513Today we created a mock up of our slider game. We discussed the slider mechanism and used the model to test our ideas and what words would work well.
501What a lovely afternoon singing club had at Alfred Stocks. Singing Club members of Year 1, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 all came along. We sang our hearts out, we had carols, songs and actions. Some of the residents could not believe how professional we sounded! All the children got lovely treats afterwards, thanks you Alfred Stocks!
562Today we begun to investigate 3D shapes, we went on a shape hunt around our school and found lots of cuboids and cylinders but only a few spheres and cubes. We decided that a Christmas tree was very similar to a cone.

569Today Year 1 and 2 came together to hear Father Silviu speaking about Advent. He spoke about the meaning of the Advent candles and the children asked lots of questions.

542We are learning to use our imagination to create illustrations with shapes. Today we have used geoboards to create different pictures.

530Daffodil class have been practising their shape drawing skills on our Chrome Books. We have been using our imagination to create different images using shapes and colours. Our fabulous learners continued to access the challenge and drew their own shape monsters.

549Today we have looked at The Houses of Parliament, we have taken a virtual tour and had some great discussions about what we can see. We then discussed what happened at The Houses of Parliament and what types of discussions, decisions and laws are made.
557Today we had a painting session in Art and Craft Club. We were painting autumn and winter scenes on a notebook, which the children can give as a gift to someone. The children really enjoyed painting with cotton buds to create leaves!
594Today we have discussed different games from around the world and how they make us feel. We then played a variety of games with our friends, making sure we followed the rules, took turns and thought about how they made us feel. We had lots of fun.
42Look at our amazing maths learning. We have been practising adding numbers within 10.
47We have begun our DT unit be discussing what we know about different mechanisms and how they move. We have practised using specific vocabulary such as – slider, lever, turn, twist, forwards backwards and left and right. We then went on a mechanism hunt around our school to find sliders. Look at our picture to see what we found.
43We have had a fantastic science lesson and learnt about parts of our body. We drew around our body and began labelling.
56Today we launched Anti-bullying week by participating in odd sock day. We attended an assembly and Miss Summers introduced our theme for this year’s anti-bullying week, which is ‘Power for good’. Then we had fun learning the Andy and the Odd socks song called ‘Power for good’.
700We have started to learn about our local area, some children have been worked extremely hard to recreate Grafton Street and The Dockers Steps.
96We have come into class this morning and found a very interesting picture on our board. We then tried to independently write some words and sentences.
52We received a very interesting package today, we have been discussing where it came from and even questioned the postman!
56We have been discussing the beautiful world that God has given to us and the importance of looking after and protecting it. We have worked in teams to create posters that are displayed around school.
700We’ve had so much fun learning about number lines. We counted forwards and backwards and then found one more and one less.
59We have been exploring toys from the past and are now sharing our favourite toy. We have discussed the material they are made from and whether they are electronic or move.
98As part of our R.E. curriculum, we have been learning about people in our parish. We met Amy McCormack who is our Extraordinary Minister of Communion. The children enjoyed asking lots of questions and sharing their knowledge.

95Daffodil class have enjoy completing lots of practical activities today. We started our day with an active P.E.lesson and then completed some fantastic measuring activities including mass and capacity. In history, we ordered a time line and completed a past and present sorting activity.

135Daffodil class were so excited to have the chicks visit our class and we had the opportunity to stroke and hold them 🐥 we discussed how we have to be quiet and gentle with them.

174Year 1 have had a problem with magic spiders. We wrote a class set of instructions – How to Catch a Spider. Last night we set a trap, it didn’t work! Today will write our own instructions to try catch the pesky spiders! #stfinbarsenglish

Year 1 have been learning about number fact families. We have used lots of different ways to help us understand quantity and number bonds, working together as a class. #stfinbarsmaths

This week, we have enjoyed a range of poems, some silly, some active and some that made us think. We read the poem At My House and thought of all the things that we love about our homes, writing up our own. #NationalPoetryDay2023

147What a great visit to Chester Zoo Year 1 had. The children loved their first school trip. We learnt so much about how we can help our native animals and insects and saw lots of different wildlife.
