Art and design at our school is a vital part of the curriculum, giving children opportunities to explore, create and express themselves. We follow the Kapow Primary scheme, which is designed to nurture creativity and equip children with the knowledge and skills they need to produce their own artwork with confidence.
The National Curriculum for Art and Design states that a high-quality art education should engage, inspire and challenge children, enabling them to experiment, invent and create. Through Kapow’s carefully planned curriculum, children not only learn practical skills in drawing, painting, sculpture and digital media, but also study a diverse range of artists, craftspeople and designers. This helps them understand how art reflects and shapes the world around us.
Through the delivery of Art and design, we aim to improve children’ skills in these four areas:
Generating ideas
Making
Evaluating
Artistic knowledge and understanding
Aims
Our art and design curriculum, supported by Kapow Primary, aims to ensure that all children:
Experiment with a wide range of artistic techniques and media.
Develop their skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, printing, collage and digital art.
Build knowledge of artists, designers and craftspeople from different times, cultures and backgrounds.
Learn to evaluate and reflect on their own work and that of others, using accurate art vocabulary.
Express their own ideas and creativity with increasing independence and confidence.
See art as a powerful form of communication, self-expression and cultural understanding.
our art topic this term has been street art. We looked at perspective and scaling up. We couldn’t decorate a wall around school as we might get into a little bit of trouble. But watch this space to see if you see our artwork around school soon.
